What is Selank?

Selank is a heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro). It consists of tuftsin – a natural tetrapeptide fragment of immunoglobulin G – extended by the stabilising Pro-Gly-Pro sequence that also protects Semax.

Like Semax, it was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow, where it is approved as a medicine. Pepspan supplies Selank as a lyophilised powder with 10 mg per vial for research.

Selank in research

Animal studies associate Selank with effects on GABAergic signalling and on the expression of genes linked to the GABA-A receptor, as well as with changes in serotonin and enkephalin metabolism. It is mainly studied in rodent models of anxiety-like behaviour and stress.

Because tuftsin is an immune peptide, other research looks at Selank's influence on cytokine expression. International clinical data are scarce; the peptide sold here is a research chemical and not approved for human use in the EU.
