What is Epithalon?

Epithalon (also Epitalon or AEDG) is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. It was developed in St. Petersburg in the 1980s, based on epithalamin, a peptide extract from the pineal gland.

With a molar mass of about 390 g/mol it is one of the smallest research peptides. Pepspan supplies Epithalon as a lyophilised powder with 10 mg per vial.

Epithalon in research

Epithalon is mainly studied in models of cellular ageing. Cell-culture work has reported an increase in telomerase activity and telomere length in human fibroblasts, and animal studies have looked at lifespan and circadian melatonin rhythms.

Much of the research comes from one research group, and independent replication is limited. Epithalon is therefore a subject of basic research and is sold here for in vitro research only, not for use in humans.

Epithalon is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed glass vial. In the laboratory it is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water: let the water run slowly down the inside of the vial and swirl gently until the powder has dissolved – do not shake.
